Solidly built, very well made package.
FIrst, the Tape-writer arrives in a nice heavy duty plastic carrying, protective case. I was worried about where I was going to store this, but since it has it's own case it fits easily on my tool shelf. Inside of the case is the Tape-writer, an instruction manual that appears to be clear and to the point. There is also two character wheels. One is for normal letters and numbers, the second is for reverse image. Finally there is a roll of Aluminum ribbon, and a roll of stainless steel ribbon. I was impressed with this package as I was only expecting the get the tape-writer and nothing else. The tape-writer itself is very solid feeling, made of 95% metal and a very grippy rubber handle on the cutting arm. This is my first metal tape-writer, having used the cheap plastic Dymo versions for years. I was hesitant at the price, but now having it in my hands I believe it was worth the money. Seems like it is built for the long haul.

Great for the home orchard
I bought this to create long-lasting labels for fruit trees. The quality of the product is obvious. It has a very solid feel, and the parts fit together perfectly. I would not recommend it for high volume use as your hand gets tired after making a dozen labels, but for occasional use, it's just the thing. Since I have had some questions about attaching the labels, I have uploaded two images. They show finished labels and how I attach a wire for looping around a tree branch.

Half click to load the tape, FULL click to emboss.
This thing is AWESOME and a must have for the hobbyist or anyone with any an organizer of any kind. It makes great labels that are easy to read and you can either have the letters/number punched "in" or "out". It comes with a reverse wheel for this. It loads and is ready to use in 10 minutes out of the box. NOTE: for some reason it has all the letters, but the numbers there is no zero or one, you have to use capital i or the letter o. It still looks fine.

Easier to use than the steel tape
I also have the non-adhesive steel tape. Compared to the steel tape the aluminum is less stiff. This makes the aluminum easier to get clear letters when stamping. The aluminum tape also seems to feed better in my embossing machine. Not sure why. The aluminum tape works better on rounded surfaces. The steel tape is too stiff to wrap around small diameter bottles. The adhesive on the back makes it much easier to use. No need to mess around with separate glue or mechanical fasteners.

TERRIFIC and Just Right !!!!
Perfect for my needs. I moved to the country and other plant labels don't seem to hold up to the elements. I do wish the dial could backspace, if you passed the letter by mistake. You have to dial all the way round, but it's not an issue. The metal tape is quite thin, so be careful not to cut yourself on the edge. If the metal was any thicker, it would be impossible to press. The tapewriter would be difficult for someone with arthritis in their hands. This tapewriter works great. Hopefully, DYMO does not discontinue the metal tape. It makes professional looking plant labels.

absolutely great
I was a little intimidated by this massive tool having only used the little dinky plastic embosser but had success on my first try. very easy to load. helps to keep thumb on tape until after it gets past the rollers. can think of many uses for this including putting embossed words in my collages.

Works Great, Kind Of Expensive
I hesitated buying this because of the price, but it does an excellent job and seems extremely durable. PROS: Mostly metal, except for the letter wheels. Seems like this could last more than a generation. Come with two wheels, one for reversing the lettering so you can read from the concave impression side. Comes with starter tape, steel and aluminum. The two punch options, hole or loops, are also useful. CONS: Really expensive. Seems like market collusion, because I found no real price competition. Also, I was disappointed by the adhesive on the aluminum tape. I'll need to ad a dab of glue if I want it to stay in electrical boxes under all weather conditions. BOTTOMLINE: Well made labeler. Expensive. Adhesive tape needs improving.

EXCELLENT LABELER!
MY HUSBAND LOVES THIS! HE TRIED THE PLASTIC EMBOSSED LABELS, BUT THEY DETERIORATED AFTER A FEW SEASONS OUTSIDE. THESE ALUMINUM LABELS SHOUD SOLVE THE PROLEM OF LABELING ALL HIS MANY PLANTS.

Durable AND Flexible
I love this stuff! I'm using it with a Braille embosser/slate & stylus and needed to find a metal that wasn't too thick and could adhere easily to other surfaces. (Note: this is non-adhesive so if you want to attach it to another surface you'll need a strong glue like E6000 or eyelets/rivets/that sort of thing. It works great with my old metal Dymo label maker - which is what it was intended for. I have had some success using it in a standard plastic Dymo label maker, although it doesn't advance smoothly and tends to leave small creases between letters. I was able to rub those out for the most part with a pencil eraser. Still, if you need a quick and inexpensive way to create a permanent label, it will do the trick. It's also great for creating garden markers, embossed or stamped jewelry, and mixed media art. I'll be buying more soon!

Works in plastic based embosser also
Circuit Breaker box was getting hard to decipher in the dark, the ink was just too faded to read in flashlight. Ordered this tape hoping it would work in my Dymo. It did. I made labels for each of the circuits, then drilled small holes in the case of the circuit breaker box and pop riveted them into place. I can read them easily now and no fear of faded ink. (I did glue over the holes and the rivets to seal the case against very small bugs. Probably not necessary, but easier that finding the box in the dark if it developed a "bug." I left the remains of the tape hanging from the box on a piece of string, in case we change or add to the circuits.
